Housing Voucher Information (Section 8, RAP, and Other Programs)
We are frequently asked whether we accept housing vouchers such as Section 8 and RAP. The answer is yes. In Connecticut, landlords are required to participate in all housing voucher programs.
How Voucher Qualification Works
Your voucher must match the number of bedrooms in the property you are applying for, and the housing authority must approve a lease at the full rent amount. For example, if a four-bedroom home rents for $3,000 per month, you must have a four-bedroom voucher, and the housing authority must authorize the full $3,000.
Utility Requirements
Utilities can affect whether a property qualifies under your voucher. Each housing authority has its own rules regarding which utilities must be included in the rent and which can be paid by the tenant.
If you are responsible for utilities such as heat, electricity, or hot water, the housing authority may apply a utility allowance, which reduces the maximum rent they can approve. This may affect whether the property meets the payment standard for your voucher.
Your caseworker can explain how the utility setup for a particular property affects your eligibility.
Application & Screening Requirements
All household members aged 18 or older must be listed on the lease and must complete an application.
Please note that all applicants must meet our screening criteria, including income, credit, and rental history. Our full qualification standards can be viewed here:

Before You Apply
Once you find a property you’re interested in, contact your caseworker with the address, rent amount, and utility details. They can confirm whether the property qualifies for housing support based on your voucher and financial situation.
