Alan Hurst and Gail Hamm

Gail Hamm, East Hampton Rotarian and PDG Alan Hurst‘s wife of 38 years, passed away on Oct 24, 2013 after a long courageous battle with breast cancer.

I joined many fellow Rotarians to celebrate Gail Hamm’s life in a beautiful  service this past Monday morning in East Hampton Connecticut that included personal and touching remarks from her husband Alan Hurst, her friends, her co-workers and community leaders. It was difficult holding applause in check, as we were in a church, after hearing some of the amazing things that Gail had accomplished and the people that she has touched in her life.  It was as nice of a send off as anyone could aspire to.

Gail is famously know for being a democratic state representative for 14 years serving East Hampton, Middletown and Haddam but as the news of her passing spread in the media it was easy to see from the many articles written about her storied life that her role as  state representative was just the tip of the iceberg. Here are links to a just few of those articles:

We all lost a great friend and Rotarian in Gail Hamm on Oct 24th but many people will benefit in perpetuity from the results of Gail’s good works and that is exactly how she wanted it.

Please keep our very good friend PDG Alan Hurst and his family at the forefront of your thoughts and prayers.

The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Gail K. Hamm Leadership Development Scholarship c/o East Hampton Rotary Foundation P.O. Box 197, Cobalt, CT 06414 or to the Rotary Peace Fellow Program c/o Rotary Foundation P.O. Box 197 Cobalt, CT 06414.
