Rotary District 7980 Philippines Typhoon Haiyan Relief Effort

Over 800,000 men, women and children in the Philippines are now homeless and without clean water or food in the wake of super Typhoon Haiyan. Their situation is desperate. With winds of 195mph, the typhoon is the largest storm ever recorded to make landfall and current reports indicate that upwards of 10,000 people may have lost their lives.

Rotary District 7980 will respond to this disaster by quickly teaming up with ShelterBox to help families affected by Typhoon Haiyan. The District 7980 effort is being coordinated by DGE Mukund Nori.

A typical ShelterBox contains a family tent, blankets, water purification, cooking utensils, a stove, a tool kit, a children’s activity pack and other vital items. Highly trained ShelterBox Response Team volunteers deliver aid, working with other international organizations and local partners. ShelterBox Response Team (SRT) members are already on the ground in the Philippines carrying out assessments in Cebu, Bohol and Tacloban.

A typical ShelterBox costs $1,000 but Rotary Clubs are encouraged to contribute any amount which they are comfortable with.
