Featured Keynote Speakers for District Assembly on 4-13-2013

We were extremely fortunate to have two quality and engaging keynote speakers, First Selectman Michael Freda and Dr. Pam Hopkins, for our Rotary D7980 District Assembly this weekend  at the Adanti Center at Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven.

  • Selectman Michael Freda, an honorary North Haven Rotarian and a SCSU Alum, will discuss the differences between managing and leading and provide inspirational stories from his career.
  • Dr. Pam Hopkins, a management professor at SCSU, will facilitate an interesting program on proactive change management with examples of how Rotary club leaders can push outside their comfort zones to get new and interesting projects done.

A draft of the program book and the agenda for the event can be downloaded as a PDF

We are just about ready to close down registrations, $50 per person, so please contact me right away if you wish to register.

District 7980 Assembly is April 13, 2013 – Not to be missed

Who says that committee work can't be fun?

Who says that committee work can’t be fun?

The District Assembly (DA) committee has been hard at work (and play) for months planning a unique experience for the attendees on April 13th at Southern CT State University. We have a great program lined up at a fabulous facility.

The goals of the DA this year are:

– To provide quality training for the incoming 2013-14 club leaders (Presidents and their Leadership Teams) for their new roles.

– Providing Rotary orientation to newer Rotarians on the ‘Bigger Picture of Rotary outside the Club walls’.

– Offering a fast track ‘condensed’ certification program for Rotary Foundation Grants eligibility.

Other key highlights include: several inspirational keynote speakers focusing on Leadership and Effective Change Management, the 4-Way Test Competition by the Finalists and real life success stories by over a dozen D7980 clubs  on membership, community service and international service projects.

Come to learn how to be Vibrant Club through the hard fought lessons learned by your fellow D7980 Rotarians and by Rotary Coordinator Alan Hurst.

We promise that this DA will be different from any other that you have ever attended. This is the one that people will be taking about, don’t miss out.

Here is a link to the DRAFT Program, Agenda and Signup Sheet. There will be several more updates to the program before we open the doors on the 13th.

Please share this unique Rotary experience with as many of your fellow club members as possible.

See you there!!!

NE PETS 2013 was a tremendous success

NE PETS concluded on Saturday 3/9 and from all accounts it was a very successful training event for the incoming Rotary Club Presidents and Assistant Governors from the 8 New England Districts. While the snow put a slight damper on attendance only about 40 of the 580 attendees were unable to make it.

Fabulous motivational speeches were given by RIPE Ron Burton, Brad Howard and RI Director Bryn Styles.

Incoming officers left NE PETS well prepared to run their clubs beginning July 1st.

We will hold 2 fellowship events on Friday in Rick’s Cafe (Suite)

I’m looking forward to seeing over 70 people from our district later this week at NE PETS in Framingham MA.

All told we have 587 attendees registered for the event and will probably exceed 600 with the walk-ins.

We have some great training programs lined up and along with some very dynamic speakers including Rotary President Elect Ron Burton.

Bring business casual cloths for the daily breakout sessions and business dress clothing for the evening dinner.

A year of planning for this years North East President Elect Training Seminar (PETS) is just about over as NE PETS is 2 weeks away (March 7-9th). A committee of about 40 people (consisting of District Governors, Elects, Nominees and Designees from the 8 districts plus 1/2 dozen others) have worked on the planning and organization of this event since last year.

We expect to have just about 600 attendees including; 460+ Incoming Club Presidents, 60+ Assistant Governors and 80 or so speakers, committee members and facilitators from the 8 districts.
