To look at the faces in the photos above an observer would never guess that at 96 years old, the Waterbury Rotary Club is the oldest club in our district and the second oldest club in the State of Connecticut.
The club was charted on April 1, 1917 and has a long storied history of community service in the ‘Brass City’. Some of their recent good works include:
- On July 2nd the club awarded (2) $2,000.00 renewable scholarships to two exceptional high school seniors.
- The club recognized a ‘Student of the Month’ on a regular basis
- They run a Putt Putt for Polio Tourney
- Members serve at the St. John’s Soup Kitchen
The Waterbury Rotary Club is currently 21 members strong and they are determined to increase their numbers substantially this year as President Ellen Pollack and her team have made membership their top priority. They have a dedicated membership committee that is working on a comprehensive retention and recruitment plan. Assistant Governor Dave Dlugos will be working with the Waterbury team on this plan.
The Waterbury Rotary Club meets on the 1st & 3rd Tuesday each month for lunch at Vasi’s Restaurant & Bar at 1700 Watertown Ave. Waterbury, CT 06708. It’s a nice restaurant with a great group of Rotarians, stop in for lunch.
