Stratford Rotary Club serves up Rib Night

The Stratford Rotary Club served up Rib Night this evening at Vazzano’s Four Seasons in Stratford. Stratford Rotary has been running their Rib Night for about 7 years and by all accounts this one was the biggest and the best yet as the Club changed the venue, the food and the format of the event.

There were about 120 attendees that enjoyed the food provided by Johnny’s Restaurant with Angelo’s famous ribs as well as entertainment by “the smooth voice” of Richard Cookie Thomas. The fellowship was lively and was complimented by a fair amount of friendly bidding on the silent auction items.

The event featured a silent auction, raffle prizes and a special Sports Memorabilia auction. All proceeds will benefit the club’s Dictionary/Thesaurus Project, whereby every third grader gets a dictionary and every fifth grader gets a thesaurus in all Stratford schools, public and parochial.

Trumbull Rotary Throws their 6th Dodgeball Tournament

The Trumbull Rotary Club put on their 6th Dodgeball Tournament on Tuesday night at InSports in Trumbull.

Proceeds from the event will support the hungry and homeless in their community which are being served by The Bridgeport Rescue Mission. The Bridgeport Rescue Mission strives to excel in the provision of food, clothing, shelter, residential discipleship, education and job training for the urban poor and addicted.

16 Teams turned out for a night of fun competition in a quest to claim the coveted bragging rights associated with winning the tournament. In the end it was The Honey Badgers winning the tournament for their 3rd straight time. Every participant  received a handsome YELLOW tournament t-shirt (nice touch Trumbull), pizza and drinks.

Start training your team for next year as this is a fun event.

Black Rock Rotary and Fairfield Rotary Spin to Feed the Hungry

The Black Rock and The Fairfield Rotary Clubs teamed up last night at ZenRide for event called ‘Spin to Win 2013’ that was designed to benefit The Connecticut Basket Brigade.

The Connecticut Basket Brigade (see flyer) is part of the larger organization known as The Basket Brigade which was founded by self-help author and success coach Tony Robbins, The Basket Brigade is built on a simple notion: one small act of generosity on the part of one caring person can transform the lives of hundreds. It takes only one light to dispel the darkness and even just one basket or a few, to bring hope. A Basket Brigade takes place when one individual prepares one basket to personally deliver to a needy family or individual.

Dozens of participants cycled for 45 minutes and provided a minimum donation of $30 each as a simple donation of $30 can feed one whole family.

North Haven Rotary Honors Veterans at Pancake Breakfast

The Fifth Annual Pancake Breakfast was held yesterday, the day before Veterans Day, as the North Haven Rotary Club once again honored the brave men and women who are serving or have served in our military by giving each of them a FREE ticket to the all-you-can-eat breakfast that was held at the North Haven Middle School.

It was all hands on deck for all of the North Haven Rotarians as they made and served thousands of pancakes for this large scale event. This year’s chairman of the event was Vice President Mark Lesage.

Rick DiNorscia, a past president of the Club, ran the annual raffle which was held during the breakfast event that included the popular sports baskets which he has provided each year. Live entertainment was be provided by the Music Center of North Haven owned by Rotarians Mary and Mark Minotti. President Debbie Volain coordinated the book fair again this year and there was a sale of luminaries by the North Haven Education Foundation.
Rotarians from Devon, New Haven, Woodbridge, North Branford all came out in support of this event.

North Branford Rotary serves up A Taste of Italy at Woodwinds in Branford

Several hundred people attended a very well organized Foodie/Wine Tasting event put on by the North Branford Rotary Club last night in Branford Connecticut. The twist on this event was that it was held at a fabulous banquet facility (Woodwinds) where the owner, Chef Silvio Suppa, addressed the crowd on the origins of Italian foods.

The food, wine and fellowship were fabulous as the North Branford Rotary Club pulled out all of the corks in making the crowd feel welcome.

It’s always good see other Rotary Clubs supporting each other’s Fundraisers and this event was no exception as it was supported by Rotarians from The Colchester, North Haven and Devon Rotary Clubs.
