New Canaan drop-in visit 07-25-2013

It was hard to stop laughing during this Rotary meeting as this group of Rotarians really knows how to have fun, which is not at all what I expected. Definitely my kinda place. The Sgt of Arms had the place roaring with his top ten list of why Golf is better than Sex.

President Fred Baker is presiding over a dynamic group of fun Rotarians that also know how to get things done.

The club will have their annual Lobster Fest on Sept 20th & 21st. Be sure to join Jennifer and me there!!!

The New Canaan Rotary Club meets in a private room at the Roger Sherman Inn, which has a fabulous atmosphere and one of the better Rotary chicken meals on the DG trail (full disclosure: that is second hand info as I didn’t actually eat it).

Looking for a great make-up spot that puts the fun back in Rotary? Then visit the New Canaan Rotary Club on Thursdays for lunch.

Colchester President Holly Potvin leads board transition

The Colchester Rotary Club completed their transition from last year to the new Rotary year tonight during a board meeting held at President Holly Potvin‘s home. The meeting included active discussions around community service, club programs, publicity and continuing to build on the membership momentum from last year. During Immediate Past President Cathy Pompei’s term as president last year the club added 4 new members:

  • Stacey Hagopian
  • Jennifer Height
  • Bonnie Johnson
  • Wayne Potvin
  • And sadly they lost long-time member Hugh Campbell at the beginning of this month.

Wayne Potvin and Gretchen Marvin of Colchester Rotary show off the grand prize of their club fundraiser.

The club is actively working on their big raffle (the drawing will take place in October) The prizes include: 2013 Dodge Avenger from Troiano Chrysler Jeep Dodge. Second prize is a 5 kilowatt generator from Gano’s Power Equipment and third prize is a $500 Visa gift card. Raffle tickets are only $20 and are available from any member of the Colchester Rotary Club.

The club meets on Wednesday evenings for dinner at Nu Nu’s Bistro in Colchester, stop in and do a make-up.

Ridgefield Sunrise Rotary is ready for 2013-14

Ridgefield Sunrise meets at 7:15am on Tuesdays @ Eats On Main

Ridgefield Sunrise meets at 7:15am on Tuesdays @ Eats On Main

I had the pleasure of dropping in as a visiting Rotarian on the Ridgefield Sunrise Rotary Club this morning. The club meets at a very nice spot called Eats on Main (449 Main Street, Ridgefield, CT   06877); which served a nice breakfast, large bottomless cups of coffee and provides a private meeting area that overlooks Main Street.

President Metzger led his club in a club assembly where the members discussed their most recent fundraising efforts for the food pantry, new member recruitment and the need to get the word out to the community about the great things that the club does. They also had a few rounds rounds of trivia, next time I need to study up ahead of time.

The club seems well focused on doing more in the community, growing and gaining better visibility. I am looking forward to visiting them again on August 27th and experiencing a double dose of fellowship by this great group of Rotarians.

The Stoningtons Install Feng Xue Sure as President

The Stoningtons Rotary Club installed Feng Xue Sure as Club President before a crowd of about 40 at Feng and Elisa’s home this afternoon. Sara-Anne Bruno was congratulated by her club and received echoing applause for the successful year that she had a President.

The weather was perfect, the food was great and the fellowship was first class.

This is a small but mighty club that gets many things done, most of the members take on multiple roles and wear several hats. President Sure’s goal is to double membership during his term as President; he will work closely with Immediate Past President Sara to achieve his goal. DG Rick (me) volunteered himself or Gerry Tom to come to the club to induct new members as a show of support.

The Stoningtons Rotary Club are big supporters of The Rotary Foundation and awarded 4 Paul Harris Fellows today.

Watch for big things from this club as I have a feeling that they are on the cusp of something big.
