Chugging along as NE PETS Registrar

The NE PETS Registrar grinding away at the data.

After a fun filled week of Rotary I sat down around 6pm to clean up the email addresses and data for the 8 districts (7780, 7850, 7870, 7890, 7910, 7930, 7950 and 7980) for our multi-district PETS. It is now about 5.5 hours later and I just sent out the 3rd round of reminder notices to all of the unregistered PE’s, AG’s, Facilitators and Committee members. Unfortunately this round of invitations received twice as many email ‘bounces’ than the previous 2 rounds did, which is not a good sign.

NE PETS is designed to train incoming Presidents and Assistant Governors, which number just over 500 in all, for the leadership positions that they will assume on July 1st.

We have just over 50% of the expected attendees registered with the event coming up in just about 6 weeks. It would be great (and extremely considerate) if the fence sitters would jump on in and just complete their registration now so that we can spend our time planning the event rather than chasing attendees.

D7980 Pre-PETS Followup Materials

Rotary Pre-PETS at Connecticut College on 1/24/13

Rotary Pre-PETS at Connecticut College on 1/24/13

Despite the bitter cold temperatures both Pre-PETS meetings at Fairfield University and Connecticut College were well very attended with a combined attendance of approximately 85 Rotarians. The new 3 hour format gave us just enough time to cover all of key preparation items for NE PETS.

Both events wouldn’t have been possible without the hard work of many people including several who deserve special thanks including: Chris Johnson and Tracy Reiser who arranged for the meeting facilities and the great dinners. Steve Cooper who took the photos. Bernadette Casella, Guy Casella, Dave Marchesseault and Jianny Keegan from North Haven Rotary. Paul Mangels from Milford Rotary for arranging for the Business Cards and to all of our presenters; DG Amey, PDG Reppenhagen, PDG Benson, DGE Nori and AG Johnson.

As promised we are making all of the materials available in digital format for your reference.

Thank You for taking the time to be with us,

Rick Bassett, District Governor Elect

D7980 Pre-PETS – the final preparations

Pre-PETS is the beginning of the training journey for incoming Rotary Club Presidents

Pre-PETS is the beginning of the training journey for incoming Rotary Club Presidents

I’ve been putting the finishing touches on the two upcoming Pre-PETS events (Wed @ Fairfield University) and (Thurs @ Connecticut College). We have about 85 people registered for the the two events this week.

For the Home-gamers; Pre-PETS is the first step  in the training journey for the incoming Rotary Club Presidents which will take the leadership helm of their clubs on July 1, 2013. It is also the first step for incoming Assistant Governors

Pre-PETS gets everyone thinking about what is ahead and prepares them for the multi-day PETS training in March that will be held in Framingham, MA.

Putting together my part of the content (available in our gift shop on Friday) has been challenging as Rotary International has so many programs and initiatives that I did not scare want to scare away of our future leaders by hitting them with a massive data dump. So a high level overview of digestible material combined with a few laughs and a nice Rotary Chicken dinner should get this group of leaders off of the ground nicely.

I’ll post an update this weekend, hopefully with a photo or two, on the outcomes.

The journey for incoming club presidents (Presidents Elect) and incoming assistant governors (AG’s)  starts with Pre-PETS this month at our Pre-PETS events in Fairfield and New London.

Pre-PETS is designed to get incoming club and district leaders prepared for their new leadership roles by introducing them to the resources and tools available to them and preparing them for their NE PETS training in March.

This is a new year in Rotary and many things have changed especially in the areas of cub administration, membership and the foundation.  Even repeat leaders will find new things available at this year’s NE PETS.

North Haven Rotarians Take Plunge for Cancer Cure

Dr. Richard Bassett, who is presently the Rotary District 7980 Assistant District Governor and a past president of the North Haven Rotary Club, organized a small group of hearty souls to join him for his second annual plunge into icy water on January 1st in order to raise money to fight breast cancer. The Rotary club’s plunge on New Year’s Day is their alternative to the fundraiser held in the numbing waters off Lighthouse Point in New Haven which is earmarked for that local park. Since the insidious disease has impacted various members of the club, their common goal is to support the ongoing efforts to defeat it. Guy Casella, this year’s club president who participated in the chilly activity along with his son’s girl friend, Katie Moss, announced that the six member team has nearly reached its goal of $3,000, but pledges continue to come in, and donations are still being accepted. The other three brave champions for a cure included the organizer’s son, Adam Bassett, as well as Leo Cegelka, and Jonathan Martinek. A warm reception was held at the home of last year’s club president, Rick DiNorscia. Heather L. Stocking of the New Haven chapter of the ACS had told the club, “The American Cancer Society relies on donations like this to help fund our breast cancer research, education, advocacy, and patient services; and every dollar raised is a step closer to a cure.”Checks may be made out to the “North Haven Rotary Club,” or directly to the “American Cancer Society,” and mailed to NHRC Plunge, P.O. Box 202, North Haven, CT 06473. For further information on the cause, please go to www.cancer.org/fightbreastcancer
