North Haven Rotary – On Saturday 12/14/2013 five other Rotary Clubs cancelled their parties but North Haven Rotary held theirs during the nastiest of nights above the North Haven Funeral Home. The party was hosted by The Havens and Catered by Anthony’s in New Haven.

Westport Rotary – Tuesday 12/17 was another snowy Connecticut Day but that didn’t stop the Westport Rotary Club from hosting the Orphenians during their Holiday luncheon. Attendees were treated to fantastic music as well as a delicious lunch.

Norwalk Rotary – Norwalk Rotarians turned out in big numbers at the Norwalk Inn yesterday for lunch to enjoy the spirited performance by the Norwalk High School Chamber Singers.

Old Saybrook Rotary – The Club held their Holiday gathering at the Hideway in Old Lyme last night. Gerri Lewis organized a rather elaborate grab bag swap, delicious meals (too bad I couldn’t stay for that) and a nice cocktail fellowship before the meeting. It’s always a pleasure visiting OSR!!

East Hampton & East Haddam Rotary – the two Club’s came together for a joint Holiday party last night at the Gelston House in East Haddam for a very big turnout with excellent fellowship, music, food and recognitions.

District Open House at the Bassett’s

Yesterday’s bad weather cleared way to an excellent turnout at the Bassett’s house this afternoon which was attended by about 75 Rotarians, family members and friends. Visitors were treated to an interesting and unique catering spread which people will be raving about for sometime to come.

The Open House was to showcase the completion of the construction project to our home as well as a way of saying thank you to everyone who has supported us through these past six months.

Here are a few photos from 3 Holiday Rotary Parties that I attended this week. I was invited to 8 others but sadly they were all cancelled or rescheduled due to our crazy weather this week.

Westport Sunrise Rotary celebrates their 25th Anniversary

About 100 Rotarians, former members, friends and family members turned out at the Red Barn in Westport last night to help the Westport Sunrise Rotary Club celebrate their 25th Anniversary in grand style.

Westport Sunrise - What we do

– better quality copy coming –

The event was a walk down memory lane for the Westport Sunrise Club as President Bob Galan called on Charter members past and present to recount the Club’s journey and the many successes that the Club has enjoyed over the years. A good number of members from the Westport Club turned out to share in the celebration. Combined, the two Westport Clubs have over 160 members all of which are dedicated to making their community a better place.

Although my friend Gerri Lewis, President of the Old Saybrook Club, cringes every time that I  say it; The Westport Sunrise Club is a perfect example of what a Vibrant Rotary Club is all about.

Westport Sunrise does interesting fundraisers, has interesting weekly meetings, generously supports their community and the world, supports the Rotary Foundation, plays nice with the Westport Rotary Club, participates in international projects, has excellent Club leadership (past and present), is a big supporter of yellow, has many members of the Club that are active in the district, the zone and with Rotary International. Roy Fuchs heads up the 4-way test contest, Dennis Wong (President-elect) is involved with Peace and Polio programs, Eric Zelinksi is part of the District Finance Committee and John Hendrickson is a Assistant Governor of Area 2.

The Club event contributed two rubber ducks for my dining room.

The Westport Sunrise Club even contributed two rubber ducks for my dining room.

Hamden Rotary Club participates in International Business Dinner

Hamden Rotary Club President Mohammad ‘Mo’ Elahee arranged for a fellowship dinner for his members at Quinnipiac University last night which was put on by The International Business Society.

The focus of the dinner was to celebrate Youth Entrepreneurship while enjoying the food and cultural entertainment from over 20 countries with all proceeds going to the Quinnipiac University Nicaragua Micro-Lending Trip Scholarships. The dinner was attended by several hundred people including: Rotarians, faculty members, students and family.

The Hamden Rotary Club makes it a point of having their 4th meeting of the month as a fellowship or fundraiser.

Start planning for your Rotary Club Holiday Party Now!!!!

Holiday Party Pic0

We haven’t gotten past Thanksgiving yet but it’s time to set our sights on planning for the December Holiday season. Things are moving quickly; pretty soon Groundhog Day will be upon us.

A Holiday Party for your Rotary Club members, spouses and partners is a fabulous way to cement relationships and engage your extended Rotary family in the great fun and friendships that your Club has to offer.

It seems like a long time from now but Christmas is just over 60 days away and everyone’s calendars tends fill up quickly around the holidays.

Holiday Party Pic1The best parties are informal low cost fellowships (rather than elaborate expensive sit down dinners) at a member’s home or place of business where guests bring the food, deserts and the drinks while the party host provides a welcoming environment and the setups.

The most important thing to do at the moment is to pick a date and to get it on to everyone’s calendar. You can fill in the details in the coming weeks.
